The QOTD is dedicated to those who claim to hardly ever watch TV yet own a 60" high-definition flat screen or something similar or have a Netflix account. Seems to be a quite common dichotomy these days if it's true. I don't think it is. I don't believe them. Chance the Gardener is one of my favorite movie characters ever and I always think of him when someone tells me, "I don't watch much TV".
On tap later today (After a most excellent crawfish boil) at CrabAppleLane is Once. There's been a lot of buzz following this movie around and I hope that doesn't hurt the movie's chances with me. Although (And unfortunately) it's rare when I do, I prefer to have no expectations about movies.
Below the jump is a movie meme I got from Sheila who got it from Tracey. I've been avoiding/ignoring memes for a few months but I love movies so I did this one even though I wasn't invited. :) I'm using Tracey's rules because putting things in red is a bit problematic here. Update (11:35AM): Cullen also has a list and a cool thing he did with some of his movies was shamelessly stolen by yours truly. Another update (3/8/2008): Nightfly has one up, too. He has some catching up to do. I kinda envy him.

Chance, Being There
Blog of the day here.
Quote from said blog: "I've been seeing a lot more of this lately; Newspapers and magazines which have slashed or outright decimated their gardening content to the point where you can barely line a birdcage with the stuff, are now asking us to write their articles for them... for no pay... and they get to keep all rights to our submissions."
The next line in that blog entry is excellent, Very nice rant. I agree 100%. -Rob

"Once Upon a Time in the West" is a classic spaghetti western from 1968 or so. I don't know if you like those, but I do and that's one of my all-time favorite movies. If you go for that genre you have to see it if you get the chance.
I liked The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (Have it on DVD) but I didn't think much of the other two Eastwood spaghetti westerns (Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More). When I think of spaghetti westerns, I always think Eastwood. I didn't know Sergio Leone used anyone else from America. I suppose I should see it. Still boggles my mind how a movie like that can get made. The handful of stars were the only ones speaking English. Everyone else spoke Italian.
Well, we do have a one-movie-at-a-time Netflix account. But: I also officially canceled our DirecTV account yesterday; it had been on "hiatus" since September, and since then, we turned on broadcast TV exactly once: For the Super Bowl. As good as the game was, I was reminded in the first 10 seconds we had our signal back why I have come to loathe most television: the commercials and (on sports broadcasts especially) the witless bantering and blather. I honestly thought that knowing the set could be turned any time we wanted to after that game that we'd start our watching habit again, but I never tuned in to anything and neither did Kate.
Now ... we've been watching about a movie a week via Netflix. And we also have a small stock of DVDs we like, and some of those are TV shows ("SCTV" for instance) and sometimes we'll watch an hour's worth of one of those. The only show I'm really missing is "The Wire," but I'll get to see that on DVD sooner or later.
Hi, Rob. I linked to your list, but it looks like my trackback didn't work. ACK!
I watch 2 or 3 movies per week and a handful of other shows, Dan. Hardly ever watch DVDs, though, and no Netflix account here. I'm really hating commercials lately. They are so damn loud.
Sorry your trackback didn't work here, Tracey. Not really sure why. It's not in my spam list, either.
