March Madness starts today. Got your brackets ready? It says here the Georgetown Hoyas will be cutting down the nets in April. Bet any house you have to lose.

About today's QOTD: The story is here.

One of the coolest photos I've seen in a while. Only in Europe, I suppose. I think there's probably laws against it in the U.S. "Departing in style" is the title. Indeed. The photographer is tataAnne and her FlickR photos are fabulous.

Spent most of the day in the yard yesterday. First serious yard work of 2008 and also got down the tomato garden. Best sight of the day: One of the CrabAppleLane nesting bluebirds swooped down into my freshly tilled tomato garden and scooped himself a grub. Second best sight of the day: One CrabAppleLane hummingbird chasing off another from the mandevilla. I offer a few on this magnificent spring Sunday.

CrabAppleLane bird feeder - March 16, 2008 - Favorite shot this morning. I liked the way the mirliton cables framed it and this is one of the best captures of a CrabAppleLane cardinal I’ve gotten. They are brilliant in the sunlight.

Bet you don't see that title every day. Today's mini-rant and QOTD courtesy of USA Today:

Nearly 3 million homeowners were behind on their mortgages at the end of last year, the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) said last week. An additional 1 million-plus borrowers were at risk of imminent foreclosure.

When an ordinary citizen gets in over his head, Mortgage Bankers say, "Awww, that's too bad.". Now that Mortgage Bankers have gotten in over their head, this ordinary citizen is tempted to say the same thing. However, I can only say this from the comfort of my locked-in interest rates on my mortgage, credit cards, and auto loan for the next few years. Hopefully, the crisis will have been dealt with before I need to ask anyone for money again.

So I'm minding my own business in my home office when I suddenly hear a thud in the back yard. A tree has fallen. As I'm looking at the fallen tree, a visitor appears on the ground nearby. It's a very shy, rarely seen fox squirrel. I've only seen them two or three times and they're never around long enough for me to get the camera. He was heading home as I took this shot. Best I could do through the glass.

He has a white splotch on his face and he is huge. My brother-in-law has one visiting his feeders that is similar but mine looks quite a bit larger. Not sure what that white splotch on the face is about. Anyone?
